Mexican Sunflower - Seed Packet
Mexican Sunflower, Tithonia rotundifolia Annual, native to Mexico
6’ tall x 2-3’ space
Approximately 75 seeds/packet. This fantastic pollinator plant is a fast grower. It matures to bloom in 60 days. Start seeds indoors in April, or outdoors when the soil temp is at least 50 F. You can also plant seeds as late as August 1st or plant 2 or 3 successions during the season. We have planted seedlings as late as August 10th and had blooms before the hard frost.
You can start them by direct sowing when the spring weather has settled and the nights are around the 50’s. Or you can start them in pots. We soak the seeds for several hours or overnight and get almost 100% germination. Plant out when the weather is settled. Deadhead to prolong bloom.
This plant will die back at the first hard frost. Because it is tropical in nature, you are unlikely to see the plant reseeding.
