“Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference.” — Kathy Calvin
At Detroit Abloom we often think in terms of how we can make a difference. And, like other nonprofits, we rely somewhat on the generosity of our donors. We are working hard to develop revenue streams that make a difference for our customers, such as making native pollinator-friendly plants available which are not available elsewhere in SE Michigan, and flowers to gladden people’s souls! These revenue streams also help us to pay for ongoing operational expenses, some special part-time help, and to keep our small but mighty organization stable and strong. But make no mistake about it—we could not grow as we have without donations from our supporters, which makes a difference in what we can accomplish each season

First and foremost, we are farmers and Wellness Center enthusiasts. As no-till farmers, we do not use tillers and other heavy machinery. But we can always use the following —wheelbarrows and other garden tools like trowels, rakes, shovels; canning jars and clean glass jars; quart-size or larger plant pots (we have enough small plastic pots); and large quantities of horse or cow manure.
And then, as for the Outdoor Wellness Center, we are on the lookout for large stones to accent the gardens; old birdbaths and a large estate fountain; and cement blocks.
